Anita’s Story
For visitors to the “orphanage”, Anita looked like a child in need. But when the tourists left, she was locked away out of sight.
Anita wasn’t an orphan — she’d been trafficked, held in a fake orphanage run for profit, while her real family searched for her.
Thanks to our local partner, Anita was found, rescued and brought home. She’s now safely back in school, surrounded by her family.
What’s Really Happening
Across South Asia, traffickers target children and young women from excluded backgrounds, whose poverty leaves them especially vulnerable.
Some are hidden in illegal “orphanages” set up to attract donations from well-meaning travellers. Others are taken through social-media scams or disappear at train stations and border crossings.
Meanwhile, their families are left desperate and without answers.
Families left behind, desperately seeking answers, only find silence.
Missing, Not Lost
No child should be paraded for tourists.
No girl should be sold into domestic servitude.
No family should have their child stolen from them.
