Karuna supports some of the poorest communities in South Asia in collaboration with local NGOs, with compassion and imagination.
I started supporting Karuna (then Aid for India) over 40 years ago. I was hoping to help not only Indian families but to provide some perspective for my own children. Years later my son went on to volunteer with Karuna in London and India. He found, as have I, that the Karuna community are caring and exceptional – good people doing good work.

I care deeply for the individuals and communities whose lives are transformed by Karuna’s work. It inspires me to know that my contribution helps create lasting change and empowers those in need.

I have been helping Karuna since 2022. I feel it is doing great work that will have lasting impact. “I feel great everyday for helping the causes that Karuna supports.

I want people to support Karuna because the needs of women and girls are so neglected in their communities, yet at the same time, as changemakers of the next generation, they could disrupt this cycle completely. But they need our help and support to achieve this.

I’m Philip, I live in SE London, and have been a supporter of Karuna for over thirty years.   Sometime in the early 1990’s I answered the front door to a young Karuna campaigner. There must have been something about him because, unlike my usual doorstep response to (e.g.) encyclopaedia and dishcloth salesmen, I invited him in …. and signed up!

The appeal to me, then and now, lies not just in Karuna’s objectives but in their working methods – working through local partners embedded in their communities to develop the skills and the means to overcome their poverty and neutralise discrimination.  Karuna’s focus on education, the empowerment of girls and, most recently, climate resilience, seem absolutely right.

The problems being addressed are huge and deep-seated but I am in awe of the courage and optimism of Karuna’s partners out there in the field. It’s clear that they are making a difference and sowing the seeds for widespread and lasting social and economic development in these desperately vulnerable communities.

I’ve been very impressed by everyone I have met in the Karuna team, and in the local groups which it supports. I’m convinced that every pound I contribute via Karuna will make a bigger and more lasting difference in India or Nepal than any other charitable options open to me.

It must be over twenty-five years since I first began giving to Karuna.

I’ve seen the effect of my donations, and I like what I see; Karuna people seem to have ideals very close to my own and I feel privileged to have them help me make a positive difference to the lives of people less fortunate than I have been.
